Little India Album Release Party - Dec. 16th

Hey friends, we need to ask you all a favour. It’s simple, we need to throw a sweet party.

About 3 years ago, we played a show with a band called Little India. You may have heard a bit about these handsome fellows and the great music they make. What’s not to like when you’re sandwiched between Conan’s soothing South African voice and Ryan Reynolds rad bass playing?

Here’s the thing: Little India is dropping their new album, and we want you to help us celebrate on December 16th at VENUE.

We’ve grown up with these guys, as friends and as musicians, and we’re so stoked to share the stage with them once more!

Check out the details here, we’ll see you soon:

JUNO Master Class and catching up!

To anyone reading this right now, we apologize for neglecting our online blog.

We're much better with keeping up to date on social media (Facebook.com/derrival, @derrival on Instagram/Twitter).

A month and a bit ago we did this crazy thing called the Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class. We were 1 of 3 bands selected (Fortunate Ones, Slow Leaves) out of tons of other bands who applied all across Canada. The week was filmed by JunoTV and released as a 5 part mini-documentary (videos below). We can collectively say it was one of the best experiences of our lives so far.

Coalition Music

Coalition Music

We spent the majority of our week at a place called Coalition Music, a really old church converted into this amazing artist space where you can spend weeks learning about every aspect of the industry. They condensed that down into one week for us. It was probably some of the most focussed learning we've ever done because everything was customized exactly to what our needs were at the time.

We spent some time in both the Twitter and Facebook/Instagram offices which was a great experience learning straight from the source of some of the most popular social media platforms in the world.

Derrival with Sam Roberts

On the Wednesday night, Sam Roberts took us out to a pub in downtown Toronto to talk to him about anything we wanted. Some crazy stories were told.

We did an interview with Etalk and the Toronto Star.

We finished off the week with one of the most nerve-racking industry showcases we've ever done. The guest-list was completely filled with top industry professionals from labels, agencies and all the rest.

We want to thank Allan Reid, the JUNO team and everyone else involved in making this week happen. It was one of the most valuable learning experiences we've ever had.

Safety Dance Cover

We had so much fun recording this cover of the 1982 classic "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats. We couldn't have done it without help from our friends Listening Party Recording, Echoplant Sound, Brian Tong, CPS Mastering and Harbourside IT.

"I remember going over to my friend’s house during school lunch breaks and we would take turns throwing on music. One time, as a joke, he threw on Safety Dance by Men Without Hats from his dad’s music library. I remember thinking it was so ridiculous, but at the same time I was really into it. This was the first time I’d heard such synth-heavy music with big 80’s drums and it really paved the way for Derrival’s future sound.  When it came time to find an 80’s song to cover, this was a clear choice."

Post-Peak Performance Project

We are so incredibly over the moon to have placed 2nd in the 2014 Peak Performance Project. The experience was incredible; we met so many amazing people along the way and it went by so fast from: Khatsahlano, to bootcamp, to the Commodore Ballroom. We want to thank everyone who supported us along the way and voted when the time came. We couldn't have hoped for a better experience.

We're currently taking some time to write what is looking like will be our first full-length album. Shows will be minimal for the time-being but stay tuned and we'll be posting updates. Big things are in the works.
